Reset and refresh your body with a detoxifying infusion of grapefruit water with woody rosemary to naturally cleanse the body of toxin buildup along with a few restorative practices and space detoxing.

The NEW Yankee Candle® Well Living Collection helps us harmonize our homes, creating a space that supports on our journey into the new year.

This post has been sponsored by Yankee CandleⓇ but all opinions stated are my own.

With the start of a new year comes the opportunity to reset our body and mind. An invitation to press our internal “refresh” button and give our body that much needed attention, support, detoxification and nourishment that it needs.

Often times when we think of detoxing we associate the idea of going on some crazy diet or loading up on products that promise to cleanse our body quickly and swiftly. While that might be true, in all honesty cleaning and detoxing can be as simple as drinking water.

When it comes to cleansing your body of harmful toxins, food is the best medicine. You’ll be amazed to learn that many of your favorite foods also cleanse the body’s detoxification organs like the liver, intestines, kidneys and skin, preventing harmful toxic buildup.

Today we’ll focus on two foods; grapefruit and rosemary, and go over a few easy practices for a better reset.

Drink Up!

Grapefruit Infused Water Benefits

Grapefruit is loaded with vitamins, minerals and fiber. It also has a very high water content which helps flush out toxins from the body. Grapefruit is an excellent detoxifier and amazing fruit when it comes to cleansing and hydrating.

Furthermore the natural pectin fiber in grapefruit, which has highly absorbent qualities, binds to heavy metal and helps remove them out of the body. It’s like having your own personal army gently escorting all toxins out and away.

Now, before you think about peeling your grapefruit, know that even the peels are high in antioxidants so be sure to leave it on and give the fruit a good scrub before adding it to your water. A fun fact is that citrus essential oils are usually extracted from the peel by cold pressing and distillation.

Best Practices for Infusing Water with Grapefruit

  1. Wash the grapefruit thoroughly in cold running water or let it soak in a vinegar water solution to remove dirt, bacteria and pesticides.
  2. Leave the peels on and give it a squeeze before adding to the water to release some of the beneficial citrusy oils.
  3. For best results allow the grapefruit water to infuse for at least 30 minutes before enjoying it.
  4. Pair it with an herb to balance out the flavor and to for added benefits.

Rosemary Infused Water

Adding fresh herbs to your infused water is a great idea! By adding fresh herbs such as rosemary, thyme, basil and mint, you get an earthy herbal flavor that enhances the benefits of the water and complements the flavor.

Rosemary in particular, when added to recipes for flavor, also improves digestibility.

Energetically speaking, rosemary is warming, drying, stimulating, and restorative. These are the known properties of this herb.

The stimulating properties of rosemary is perhaps why this herb is favorited amongst herbalists. It’s a tonic for the memory, increasing mental function and acuity by increasing blood flow to and stimulating the brain. This stimulating action also has other benefits to the brain, and it’s known to help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, nervousness, fatigue, exhaustion, stress, headaches, and migraines.

Finally, rosemary is a well-known digestive tonic. It is especially good for digestive upset resulting from mental tension, anxiety, and worry due to its nervine action

Breathe

Inhale. Exhale. Repeat!

Breathing is one of the most [important and] overlooked techniques in our wellness practice. We breath everyday, every second of the day without even thinking about it!

As we go about our days, our breath gets shallower and “disconnected”. Most of the time we do not breathe into our entire body, only to parts of it like the upper chest and restricting the rest of the body of this energy flow. Or we breathe into our bellies restricting the breath to the sides of the body. In other words, we end up breathing into regions of our body, and not filling the whole

The deep, intentional breathing serves to purify the body, detoxify and increase energy flow.

It is the breath that allow us to experience life and how we breath will determine the quality of this life.

Practice creating intervals for mindfully breathing throughout your day. When you breath deep and mindfully, your body send signals to your brain that ‘all is well’.

De-Clutter

Your home is your sanctuary

This is a big one for me, and here is why; I am a clean freak, a spiritual junkie and passionate gardener and herbalist, book worm, foodie, photographer, cat mom and mom of two teenage girls and two stepsons. I own too many houseplants to count and I like to know where everything is at all times 🙂

The solution is to de-clutter. Less is more kinda thing. I like my space clean, bright, inviting with a harmonious touch and sense of tranquility, and if possible I’d like for it to shed a spark of inspiration.

This space brings me happiness.

It’s a single flower on a delicate vase, my favorite candle filling the house with warming scents and the sound of a crackling fire in the background.

Consider de-cluttering your space a detox for your home. You will be surprise how much your surroundings affects your mood and wellbeing.

Connect

Find your tribe!

I recently took a personality test and was shocked to learn that I am 91% introverted. Like wow! Needless to say, connecting doesn’t come easy to me but here is what I have learned;

Aside from the sociological and emotional aspects of connecting with others, social connectedness can actually improve our immune system and physical well-being.

This past year despite the pandemic limitations, a good friend and I decided to get together once a week, every week to practice yoga at home. We were both unable to attend class in the studio and we decided to create our own practice, which often times turned into tea time or lunch and always a good conversation.

Despite the incredibly challenging year, I happen to feel my best and I highly attribute this win to the social connection and interaction we were able to share.

Find your tribe and stick to them! Having good conversations with like minded people can be invigorating and refreshing, much like hitting the refresh button of your mind and soul.

Also try a mood-setter to connect with friends in a deeper level. I always have my Yankee Candle burning whenever I have people over to create a sense of warmth and energize my space. This little trick always makes people feel welcomed and allows for a good conversation to flow.
