I am so glad the summer days are finally here. There is nothing I love more then waking up to a long sunny day, where you can basically fit three-winter-days worth of chores and fun things in one day! I feel more energetic and overall happy… I think it’s my Brazilian blood soaking into a familiar field.
Although I also like to cook more in the summer, I cannot stand being (inside) next to a hot oven or stove for too long, I am sure many of you can relate to this. So instead, I will make delicious summer recipes and drinks to stay fit, hydrated, satisfied and healthy. Starting with the all time favorite lemonade!
Lemonade is one of the most refreshing beverages of a hot summer and it can surprisingly be healthy drink if you make it the right way.
Lemon water is a well known powerful drink that helps us stay healthy and fit, so why is your lemonade… hmm not so healthy? Here is the killer my friends; SUGAR and ARTIFICIAL INGREDIENTS (flavor and color).
If time is not on your side buy organic lemonade made with pure ingredients but if you can, try making your own lemonade. It’s really simple and flavorful.
Homemade Pink Lemonade
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice 5 lemons
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar
- 1 pint fresh strawberries
- 5 cups cold water
- Mint sprigs
Instructions
- Blend all the ingredients together (except mint!) for about 1-2 minutes.
- Use a mesh strainer or cheese cloth to separate the strawberry and lemon pulp from the juice.
- Add a few slices of lemon, fresh mint sprigs and lots of ice.
- Serve cold
Note: for this recipe I substituted the white processed sugar for organic coconut sugar just to take away the edge from the lemon, the strawberries add a natural sweetener to this tasty drink. Also coconut sugar is a natural alternative to the over processed bleached refined sugar.
