This Soursop Coconut Smoothie is an invigoration and super healthy drink that will make you feel good all day!

Soursop Coconut Smoothie

Naturally, if you are born and raised in a foreign country, there are lots of foods typical of your region of origin that you can no longer enjoy. However, I feel that -now more then ever we are able to get our hands on a lot of these food, products or ingredients if you are willing to pay the price.

Soursop is -what I should say my latest ‘re-discovery’. It’s been far too long since I last had one so I was extremely excited to, after weeks of touch-feel-sniffing find just the perfect ripe soursop to take home with me.

How to pick the perfect Soursop

Use your senses! grab the fruit and give it a little squeeze. Is it too hard? put it back, as there are no guarantees that it will ripen right. Too soft? never a good sign. Be sure the fruit ‘gives in’ just a bit to pass the touch test.

Go ahead and give it a sniff. Believe me, you are definitely NOT the first one sniffing on fruits! Soursops have a delicious sweet scent, so if you can pick up on some of that, you are good to go!

If you are lucky enough to get your hands on a fresh soursop fruit, know that you are in for a treat. However, before you sip on the BEST smoothie of your life, you will need to remove all the seeds prior to blending it. I must warn you there are quite a bit of seeds inside of the juicy pulp, so use your hands to remove them because that’s the best tool for the job.

Soursop Coconut Smoothie

Soursop has such an unique taste, it’s highly scented (kinda like a pineapple) and has a really soft texture. This means that it’s best if kept very simple. Most times Brazilians will make juices or smoothies using the fruit only combined with water, which is fine and absolutely tasty. But I’ve always enjoyed it with coconut milk or coconut water, because these two flavors are so perfect together.

I truly hope you get to try soursop and if you do so, please let me know! This is an original and exclusive recipe from the Brazilian cuisine, so if you found value on this information, I ask that you please share with your family and friends.

  1. Use your senses! Haha! Great guide on how to pick a perfect soursop for your smoothie. Amazing recipe by the way, I love to drink it while it’s cooold! 🙂

  2. Can you use this as cold soup as well? I had Guanabanna cold soup on a cruise..they used nutmeg/cinnamon on top. It was delicious.

If you have a specific cold soup using the same ingredients I would love to see it.

    Thanks

    Marcia

    1. This is very interesting Marcia. I am personally not a big fan of cold soups and don’t have any recipes on my blog. I think soursop is way too sweet to make it into a soup. Maybe a smoothie bowl? if you make it thick and add fun toppings. Sorry I can’t help you any further but in any regards, thank you for stopping by to check out my recipes! Silvia
