This might come as a little surprising but I just recently purchased my first Juicer {yay!}. About a year ago I was trying to decide between a blender and a juicer, and after reading so many {helpful} articles I decided on a professional blender which I use all the time. So if you ask me which one to try first, I will say a blender. A blender has many other uses besides making a yummy and healthy drink, its a lot easier to clean {one unit v. 3-4-5 pieces!}, and you will use a lot less ingredients too, provided that you will need to add a liquid ingredient among with your solids. The biggest difference between a blander and a juicer is in the consistency of your drink; a blender makes smoothies (thick due to the pulp content) and a juicer makes a pure liquidly juicy because it retains the pulp.
Now that we understand our juicers and blenders, Let’s juice!
The best thing about juicing is that you can play with your ingredients to find good combinations and flavors. Also if you have a list of fruits and veggies that you don’t like or don’t necessarily eat on the daily basis, this is a great opportunity to introduce these foods to your diet, because all fruits and veggies have great benefits for your health. When you add something you don’t like, lets use my friend kale for instance, to a few other ingredients, all of a sudden my friend kale doesn’t taste so bad… right?
I suggest that you always use 1 kind of fruit per 3 kinds of veggies ratio to keep the sugar nice and low. I also suggest that you always use lemon when juicing because it blends all the ingredients together really well, giving the juice that little kick yum!. In this recipe I used a scoop of Vega One Protein Powder as an optional ingredient for the protein shake lovers, yes you can add it to your juice friends! Vega One is one of my favorite brand and it comes in a few flavors.
Lastly, I suggest that you buy organics whenever possible. There is a great list of dirty dozen and clean fifteen from our friends at EWG {Environmental Working Group} click on link to be redirected and get familiarized with the foods you must buy organic and the ones you can buy conventional.
I really hope you enjoy my first green juice recipe, from many to come!
