How to clean mushrooms
Unlike other vegetables, you don’t want to soak mushrooms in water because they already contain so much liquid. If they soak up any more, they won’t brown properly. Instead, wipe the mushrooms with a damp kitchen towel or paper towel to remove any dirt and debris.
You can lightly rinse them under cool running water afterward to loosen anything you may have missed. When done, dry the mushrooms very well with a paper towel.
