Few things in life bring me as much joy as a day at the Farmers Market. The vibrant colors of fresh produce, the delicious aroma of freshly baked pies, and don’t get me started on the flower! It’s a place to feel joyful, to unwind and restore. But how do we expend this feeling further into our day? how do we bring the farmers market experience home?

For as long as I remember I’ve been that girl with the heart of a farmer, rooted back in my childhood days in Brazil. No matter how much life changed or how far I moved, I always seemed to crave a closer relationship with nature.

You’ll be surprised to know that our greatest joy comes from the simpler things in life. This explains why we feel truly happy whenever we are outside, hiking, walking, biking, gardening, sun bathing, dog walking, etc., no farm background needed! But for me this was a huge awakening…

back to the basics

Do more of what you love! Isn’t this the idea? However, sometimes happiness is so simple we don’t even realize it. So I made sure to change a few things in my life that brought me closer to nature. Here is what I did;

  • I started a summer garden!
  • I added several indoor plants to my living space, from bedroom to bathroom, living room, office and kitchen!
  • I joined a CSA (community service agriculture)
  • I made time to walks, sun bathing and star gazing, a.k.a outdoor time!

While these are basic suggestions that you can incorporate into your life, there is something else you can do that will bring MAGIC to your life…

a day at the farmers market

Don’t be surprise if you find yourself feeling overtaken by joy after a day at the farmers market. I know I always do! Whether you find that you connect with like-minded individuals, or enjoy bringing fresh veggies to your home, or simply enjoy the time outside, there is definitely a special kind of happy you get from a farmers market.

However, for me this joyfulness seemed to vanish as soon as I got in my car. So I found a way to carry this experience (and feeling) into my home by creating a ritual and transforming what was once nothing but a chore into a joyful way to celebrate coming home from the farmers market. And by the way, this ritual I now perform almost daily, whether I am coming home from the grocery store, while cooking a meal for my family, while caring for my plants or simply to unwind at the end of the day.

  • Sweet Maple Chai

my Yankee Candle ritual

To stretch out that joyful feeling after coming home from the farmers market, I first light up my candles. I am currently in love with Farmstand Festival which is quite fitting for the occasion 🙂

In minutes my house smells like an autumn afternoon. Mulled fruits and rich berries paired with the rustic scent of weathered wood, Farmstand Festival is simply delightful!

This little ritual sets the mood for a fresh-from-the-market feel that lasts all day long. I find it helpful to wash and prepare my fresh produce as soon as I arrive at home, this way they can be ready to go during the busy week. This is also the time when I go through a few recipes I want to try using my fresh produce.

Golden Chestnut

Warm chestnuts roasted with ground spices, woodsy herbs and a touch of citrus.

Sweet Maple Chai

An overflowing mug of chai-spiced milk and maple syrup swirled to creamy perfection.

Aside from the farmer’s market experience, Yankee Candle Farmers Market Collection of fragrances are a perfect centerpiece to a dinner table. They add in the perfect warmth, fragrance and elegance while helping you create memories.

Dried Lavender and Oak

Hand-tied bunches of lavender mill about the woodsy scents and spices of an outdoor farmer’s market.
