Now that grill season is here, it’s time to take our favorite split chicken recipe to the outdoors with Dorot Crushed Ginger to make the most perfect jaw-dropping moist and flavorful Grilled Split Chicken you ever tried!
While I am beyond thrilled that Summer is finally here, the arrival of the warm season can sometimes have an impact on the way we eat and cook our food. I totally get it! Being born and raised in a tropical country, I desperately miss the warm sun, so when it’s finally here I want to be out there enjoying it. However, for most of us, myself included -this means making a serious effort to cut down on all indoor activities (a.k.a. duties, chores) as much as possible.
Which is why I love cooking with Dorot Garlic and Herbs. With Dorot I can make great tasting meals with no prep work, cleaning up or having to compromise on freshness, quality and taste which is super important to me.
Dorot comes in perfect portion sized frozen cubes that are super easy to use. But perhaps my favorite part -which totally reflects on the great tasting flavors, is the packaging process. At peak freshness, Dorot fresh garlic and herbs are pulled out from the fields and flash frozen into convenient trays within 90 minutes of harvest! As a gardener myself, I had to appreciate this 🙂
Minor details, right?! (or not!). No worries, you don’t have to be a gardener to notice it’s fresh taste.
With Dorot I am all excited about summer cooking again and not having to spend the extra time pealing, chopping and cleaning, so I can dedicate most of my to poolside fun, the kids and taking a step back into chill zone. Better yet, I am looking forward to pairing up Dorot with my favorite recipes for the grill!! (Sharing one of them just below)
Whole chicken recipes are one of my favorite things to make because it’s the ONE meal all six of us like and it never gets boring. Now that grill season is here, I am taking our favorite recipe to the outdoors, with Dorot Crushed Ginger to make the most perfect jaw-dropping moist and flavorful -yet simple- grilled chicken in the history of all-things-grilled-chicken! I know that’s a powerful statement, but I am here to back it up… plus, sometimes pictures speak louder then words, am I right? 😉 Whoooaaa this chicken ??
So friends, head to your local Stop and Shop Supermarket and grab a tray of Dorot (or two, three… or six like me!) and take the easy Dorot route to amazing tasting summer night meals! Find Dorot amazing selection of flavors (such as garlic, ginger, basil, parsley, cilantro, dill, chili and glazed onions!) located in the freezer isle.
Oh, and if you see a desperate looking lady overpacking on Dorot and likely grabbing all the chopped cilantro flavor (cuz cilantro makes life a whole lotta fun), that’s probably me -so please ignore my actions and know that I {need to}cook a lot and I {want to}sun bathe a lot, and those two can only work together with Dorot in the mix!
Grilled Split Chicken With Dorot Ginger & Honey
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken split in half, at room temperature
- 9 cubes Dorot Crushed Ginger also at room temperature
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp red chili pepper flakes
- 3-4 lemons sliced in half, 1 juiced
Instructions
- Pre-heat grill to a 500F degrees by turning all burners on high.
- Cover the entire chicken with a generous layer of olive oil. Be sure to get all sides covered. Season with salt, pepper and red chili pepper flakes. Chicken must be at room temperature before grilling.
- Place chicken on grill, right in the center. At this point turn the middle/ center burner completely off and turn the left and right side burners down, enough to bring the grill temperature down to about 350F degrees. This is the set temperature to grill the perfect chicken, evenly!
- Let chicken cook for 15 minutes then flip sides and cook for 15 more minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a small glass combine the softened cubes of Dorot ginger, honey and juice from one lemon. Mix with a fork to combine.
- Flip the chicken to the other side and allow to cook for 15 minutes on this side as well. It’s important that the chicken get some grill time on both sides before starting to glaze it with the honey ginger sauce because the honey will brown the chicken quickly giving the false impression that the chicken is thoroughly cooked.
- After both sides have cooked for 15 minutes, continue to flip the chicken every 15 minutes, now brushing with a coat of ginger honey sauce between each time you flip the chicken. Each side should be turned about 3 times, one being only seasoned with oil, salt and pepper and other two flips, brushed with sauce. The total cook time is up to 1 1/2 hours, depending on grill temperature, size of chicken and cooking preference.
- Just prior to chicken being done, add lemon slices to the grill, cut side down.
- Remove chicken from grill and serve with grilled lemon slices.
