Spinach Chia Green Smoothie

I am sure you heard before that our bodies are like a clock. Well, mine is certainly no different and it has never fail to crave for healthy smoothies upon the arrival of Spring. All of a sudden, it’s not that cappuccino in the afternoon that I am reaching for but rather in my freezer, for my frozen goodies.

Drinking 3-5 smoothies a week is my way to get my body ready, healthy and strong for the new season. Furthermore, it’s easy, cheap (to make at home, more on this below) and I can totally replace my breakfast or lunch for a big glass of this Spinach Chia Smoothie and be 100% fulfilled.

How to work your smoothies around your budget

I buy a lot of fruit and produce each and every week, so more often then not something will get too ripen or we simply don’t get to eat it. Well, guess where it goes?? Freeeeezer! Usually by Friday (day of or before I go food shopping) I go through my fruit basket and cut up all the fruit left over from the week and put them in separate zip bags. Store bought frozen fruits can be very expensive for the convenience of having it all cup up. Hmm… no thanks! Even if you do not go through a lot of fruit, you will be surprised on how the little you freeze adds up with time.

Another HUGE money saving tip is to never EVER buy smoothies. Okay, perhaps on occasion. Store bought smoothies will often contain added sugar, which is totally unnecessary and kind of defeats the purpose (duh) plus it’s way over charged!

Make your own!

I love making my smoothies at home because I get to control everything! The ingredients, no sugar (EVER!), the thickness… PLUS, I get to add fun toppings such as berries, coconut shavings, nuts, seeds… you name it!

Get the kids involved!

If one thing kids love making is a colorful cup of smoothie. My kids have been making their own smoothies for ages!! It helps them get involved in the kitchen, learn to make smart decisions about their eating habits and fill their bellies with something healthy and not the sugary drinks.
