If you haven’t cooked in an air fryer you don’t know what you are missing. This handy kitchen appliance circulates hot air so it cooks food evenly without any oil. It’s much healthier than pan frying or deep frying.

Cooking steak tips in the air fryer is the perfect way to get them tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. You can use any kind of steak you prefer; ribeye sirloin, tri tip or whatever you happen to have on hand.

This tasty marinade loaded with garlic, olive oil, butter and soy adds tons of umami flavor so don’t skimp on the marinating. You can make a double batch and serve as a dipping sauce.

We like to eat these air fryer steak bites as a main meal with a hearty salad and some veggies on the side. Leftovers can be used to make a steak sandwich, steak tacos, or fajitas, thrown on top of a salad, or in a stir fry.

Ingredient Notes

  • Steak tips – I used 2 pounds of steak tips, cubed.
  • Olive oil – I like to cook with extra virgin olive oil but any kind of oil will work.
  • Butter – Salted or unsalted butter are both good. If you use salted just adjust your salt accordingly.
  • Coconut aminos – I like to use coconut aminos but soy sauce also works. Look for low sodium.
  • Mustard – I prefer to use Dijon mustard for it’s sharp taste.
  • Garlic– Fresh pressed garlic adds the best flavor but jarred will work.
  • Salt and pepper – Season with salt and pepper to your preference.

How To Make Steak Tips In Air Fryer

  • Add oil, melted butter, coconut aminos, mustard, garlic, salt and pepper to a small bowl and whisk to combine.
  • Pour marinade over the cubed steak in a bowl or plate, cover with plastic wrap and marinate for at least 30 minutes (see notes).
  • Place marinated steak tips in the air fryer basket without overlapping and cook at 450F degrees for 5-7 minutes. No need to turn them over. You will need to do this in two batches.

Tips and Variations

  • If you only have 30 minutes to marinate the meat, you can leave the meat marinating on the counter. Longer marinating times will require the meat to be refrigerated.
  • Look for steak tips that are about the same size so they cook up at the same pace. If possible ask your butcher to cut the steak for you.
  • Feel free to substitute avocado oil for the olive oil.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce or use it in place of the soy sauce for a deep savory flavor.
  • Add some spice and throw in chili flakes or chipotle in adobo sauce.
  • Mix in some Montreal steak spice or any other seasonings you have on hand.
  • Garnish the steak tips with fresh parsley, cilantro, basil or rosemary.
  • Make sure to place the steak tips in a single layer in the air fryer so each tip can cook up nicely.
